Susan asks…

How do I tell my boss I want to work part-time because full time is interfering with my “second job?”

A former stay at home Mom, I now work 9-5 at a small internet company and have been for the past year. My son is of age so coming home to an empty house is not an issue. And my two daughters will be attending an after school program. Like ALL working parents, I am finding myself “slacking” in my “second” job….family, household chores etc,

So for all you working parents out there, how should I tell my boss that I need to work part time because overall it is best for my family?

Alley answers:

You really don’t owe your boss that explanation. Family is the only thing that comes after GOD. If that is what you want, then tell him the truth, he will respect you more. Just be prepared, if he is not an understanding person then he might let you go. Then, it’s probably not worth working for him anyhow. Good Luck! Jennifer

Thomas asks…

network/wireless internet problem.. SAYS IP ADDRESSES DO NOT MATCH… HELP COMPUTER PEOPLE PLEASE HELP!!?

ok i was using netgear to get wireless internet in my room, so i could do my school work while my mom was doing her work in the living room. well one time it stopped working all of a sudden, so i started looking at a bunch of stuff inside the computer. i think i changed some settings, and it still wouldnt work. the internet works when i plug the modem straight into the computer itself, but wont work if i plug it into the router then the computer. so i bought a new router from linksys. at first it worked, then one day the net just stopped working. i tried to download it all over again, but it just says that there is a conflict with the ip addresses on the computers. i know its not the routers, it has to be one of the comuters itself i just dont know which one or how to fix it. please help me i really need the internet for a side job on ebay and school work. thanks for your time!

Alley answers:

Sounds like you have assigned an IP address to one of your PC’s that the router is trying to give out. Go to CONTROL PANEL & NETWORK CONNECTIONS. Right click your LOCAL AREA CONNECTION and select PROPERTIES. Make sure the TCP/IP Protocol is set to AUTO and does not have any numbers entered

Sandy asks…

Legit work at home jobs?

I am looking for a legit work at home job without the scams i have seen online. I don’t want to get rich or spend all my time on the internet. The whole point of being a stay at home MOM is to be a mom. I only want to make at least $50 a week EVERY week. I only want to make enough to pay to put him in an early preschool program.
I looking for something with no start up costs. or something i can do at home it doesn’t have to be online but i woul prefer computer work.
I prefer not to work outside the home because i have another child and i go to school so i don’t want to overload myself.

Alley answers:

Watch out. There are two basic types of “Work At Home” job scams on the internet. The first is the survey site. You join up and have to give them all sorts of personal information. Immediately, your mailbox is filled with spam. As hard as you try, you never get to a level where they will send you a check. You quit the site, but the spam continues.

The second scam is joining a club or whatever that promises you endless money for a small entry fee. They are classical pyramid schemes. The only way you make any money is to dupe others into joining and you get a miniscule percentage of their entry fee. No new members, no money. That’s why you see so many of these offers here because they can’t find any more suckers.

Another clue that the answer is a scam, is to check the date that the person joined Yahoo Answers. You will find that all of them joined the last day ot two because they have been kicked off of Yahoo Answers numerous times for running a scam and rejoined under a fictitious name.

Ken asks…

Is there a LEGAL way for a teen to make money over the internet?

I can’t get a job because there is no one to take me. Plus, I’m kind of in a way not allowed to. So, I thought about it and thought that maybe I could find a job over the internet. I need the money because my mom is sick and can’t take any more days off of work or she’ll get fired and my dad doesn’t have a job and it doesn’t seem like he’s putting much effort into finding one. Can anyone help me?

Alley answers:

Most of the time you must be 18. I found a site that lets you be 13 and i use it a lot. Http://www.swagbucks.com/refer/supparty . You play games , search the web, take surveys, and watch videos to earn swag dollars. When you have enough swag dollars you can get a gift card, pay pal, game system or other rewards.if you need cash try to get a game system and then sell it on ebay. Hope your mom gets better and your dad finds a job.you are a realy nice person to try to help out your parents. :)
